Asphalt Sealcoating
Sealcoatings are specialty coatings expressly for the protection and preservation of asphalt pavements. We use a Bitumen/Rubber sealer not acrylicAsphalt pavements are composed of asphalt binder (AC), aggregate, and silica and specialty chemicals. Asphalt binder has an outstanding capability to hold the aggregate together and keep the water out of the sub-base and base of the pavement. Asphalt, however, breaks down by sun’s ultraviolet rays and is easily attacked by salt, gasoline, oils and other petrochemicals. Sealcoatings act as a barrier coat to stop all the damaging elements to preserve the properties of the asphalt binder.
The value of sealcoatings has been well recognized over the years and it has been established that the life of the pavement can be extended more than three (3) times, by spending only 1/3rd of the cost of the total asphalt replacement.

Potholes can develop in any weather, buy they seem to happen more frequently during the winter months after a period of snow or ice. They can show up quickly and often seem to spread across an otherwise smooth driveway.
That's why it's essential to have the right materials on hand for fast repairs. At Newdriveways we saw cut the pot hole and do a full depth repair for patch longevity, tack coat the bottom and edges, shovel in hot mix and use a mechanical tamper.
The ideal thickness of asphalt cold patches should be approximately two inches. for deeper potholes they will be filled first with angular crushed gravel.

Crack Sealing
Crack repair is all it's cracked up to be. Asphalt cracks can be caused by a number of factors and are the root of most problems for pavement. Once a crack forms, water is able to seep through and erode the base causing deterioration. For that reason, crack filling is recommended as the most cost-effective, preventative pavement maintenance procedure.
The recommended time to perform crack sealing is in the spring or fall. Pavement expands and contracts with temperature fluctuations and, in spring or fall, the pavement is midway in its minimum and maximum movement. Treating cracks at this time of year enables the sealant to fill and seal cracks more effectively.
Micro cracks are seldom seen with the naked eye, we recommend sealcoating to stop this process before it becomes a bigger issue.
